Privacy
What we do, what we don’t, and why.
ShowGrandma is a private family memory journal. The whole point of the product is that the photos you upload, and the people you share them with, stay between you and the family you invite. This page tells you exactly how that works in practice.
The short version
- We don’t sell your data. Not aggregated, not anonymised, not for “research partners” — never.
- We don’t train on your photos. Your child’s face is not training data for any model, ours or anyone else’s.
- We don’t run ads. Anywhere. There is no advertiser between you and the people you invite.
- You can take it all with you, any time. A single zip with originals, captions, and dates. We delete everything 30 days after you close your account.
Who this policy applies to
This Privacy Policy covers what happens when you use ShowGrandma — the website, the iOS app (and Android/web apps when they ship), and any service that asks you to log in with your ShowGrandma account. ShowGrandma (referred to below as “we”) is the data controller — the entity that decides why and how your personal data is processed.
What we collect
From the marketing site (this page)
Today, this site collects nothing. No analytics, no cookies, no fingerprinting. If you click “Get early access” you’ll open your email client and you can choose what to send. We don’t see anything until you hit send.
From the app, when it ships
- Account details: your email and name. Email lets us contact you about your account; name is used in the app and in invitations to your family.
- The content you upload: photos, videos, captions, dates, and the names of the children you create timelines for. This is yours; we host it for you.
- Who you invite: emails of family members you invite, so we can send them an invitation and (if they accept) link them to your timeline.
- Operational metadata: the bare minimum to run the service — your device type, the timestamps of your uploads, error reports if something crashes. We don’t build a behavioural profile.
What we do with it
- Store and display your timelines for you and the family members you’ve invited.
- Operate the service — send invitation emails, deliver push notifications you’ve opted into, generate exports when you ask for them.
- Bill you for paid plans (when those exist), via a payment processor that holds the card details — we never see them.
- Communicate about your account: receipts, changes to this policy, security issues. Marketing emails are opt-in and you can turn them off any time.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell, rent, or barter your personal information.
- We don’t use your photos or captions to train AI models — ours or third-party.
- We don’t show ads in the app or on this site.
- We don’t share your data with social platforms, ad networks, or data brokers.
- We don’t scan your photos for “quality assurance” or any other pretext. Encryption-at-rest and access controls keep them out of casual reach.
Who else sees your data
The infrastructure that runs ShowGrandma — Google Cloud (storage, compute, database) and Firebase (auth, push notifications) — handles your data on our behalf, under contracts that bind them to use it only for delivering the service to you. We do not authorise them, or anyone else, to use your data for their own purposes.
Children’s privacy
ShowGrandma is built for parents and family to share photos of their own children. The account holders are adults; the children whose photos are stored don’t have accounts. We do not knowingly collect data directly from children under 13. If you become aware that we have done so, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access the personal data we hold about you (the app shows you most of it; the rest you can request).
- Export your timeline content as a single zip file — photos at original resolution, videos at original quality, with all captions and dates intact.
- Correct any inaccurate personal information.
- Delete your account. Once you do, we keep your data for 30 days as a cooling-off window (in case you change your mind), then purge everything — photos, videos, captions, household state — from production. An audit-log entry recording the deletion is retained for legal compliance; it does not contain your photos or captions.
- Withdraw consent for any optional processing (e.g. marketing emails) without affecting the rest of the service.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we’ve mishandled your data.
Cookies and trackers
The marketing site (this site) uses no cookies or third-party trackers. The app uses an authentication cookie/token to keep you logged in, plus essential preferences. We don’t use third-party analytics or ad-tracking cookies.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and — for any change that materially affects your data or rights — email every account holder before the change takes effect. We won’t quietly weaken your privacy.
